Fun Ways to Use Rugs in Your Décor

Our home décor is very personal. We want our rooms to look stylish and clean, and to be practical, but we also want to show off our personalities and create a home that’s unique to us. We often focus on the walls, the furniture, and the accessories, but rugs can be a fantastic way to totally change the look and feel of a room.

Adding a rug to a space helps to create depth, add comfort, and in some cases make a statement. There are plenty of ways to use rugs to spice up your décor. Here’s a look at some of the best.

Create Layers

Layering rugs might sound a little strange but it can look fantastic. A plain or low pile rug layered under something shaggy or bold creates an eye-catching feature. Layering block colors at angles that allow each space can also look amazing. This can be particularly effective if you’ve got wooden floors and are keen to add depth.

Choose Bold Patterns and Prints

Bold patterns and prints add some fun to your décor and can be the statement piece of a room. Adding a patterned rug, or traditional runner rugs from Rug Source to a plain carpet or wooden floor can look fantastic while offering comfort and making a room feel warmer and more inviting.

Add Block Colors to Existing Prints

On the other hand, if you’ve got printed carpet, fun tiles, or a patterned wood effect, then adding a plain block color can prevent the floor from becoming overwhelming or busy. Block colors and especially neutral or pale colors can be particularly effective if you are working with a smaller space.

Invest in an Outdoor Rug

Rugs aren’t just for indoors. Adding an area or runner rug to a decking or patio can be a great way to add some color and comfort to your garden. Rugs can look particularly nice in outdoor seating areas, or on large decks, to break up the color and give children a comfortable and safe space to play.

Add a Rug to Your Bathroom

Carpets in bathrooms aren’t particularly fashionable. They aren’t always ideal in damp rooms. But adding a rug can add comfort and color, and rugs are much easier to clean and dry.

Place a Thick Rug by Your Bed

There’s nothing better than stepping out of bed to feel a soft, shaggy rug under your feet, especially when it’s cold outside. Adding soft rugs to the sides of your bed can help you to start the day right.

Use Rugs to Create Zones

If you have a large or open plan living space, adding rugs is a great way to divide the room into zones. Use one rug under the dining table, another by the sofa, and perhaps a rug in a bold bright color to create an obvious play area.

Use Rugs in Other Ways

Your rugs don’t have to stay on the floor. You could use them as throws, bed runners, or even wall hangings too.

Rugs are an easy and cost-effective way to add something extra to your décor, helping to make your home unique as well as adding warmth. Another great benefit of rugs is that they are easy to move around the home if you ever fancy a change.
